YOU CAN BY PARTICIPATING IN APRA-IN’s MENTOR PROGRAM!!

The APRA-IN Mentor Program was created to pair a beginning researcher with an experienced researcher. Mentors provide support, advice and assistance on research strategies and resources. If you would like to be a mentor or have a mentor, please contact the APRA-IN Mentor Chair, Kay Farrell at kffarrell@purdue.edu. The Mentor Program strives to match individuals with a mentor from a similar organization who is also experienced in the area(s) of need and geographic proximity, where possible. GUIDELINES:
APRA Mentor & Mentee:

  • Must be a member of APRA-Indiana chapter; Note: If you are not currently a member and are interested in joining APRA, please click HERE for membership application.
  • Must be currently employed in prospect research or related field:
    • Mentor must have with at least one year direct experience
  • Must be committed to upholding the professionalism of the field of prospect research
  • Must be willing to make a one year commitment to this program
  • Mentor must be willing to learn as well as share, to provide consultation in technical skills, problem solving, planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Mentee is advised to keep in contact and work with Mentor’s schedule regarding convenient meeting times, dates, locations, etc. (Mentor’s have volunteered their time and talents.)
  • PLEASE NOTIFY MENTOR CHAIR OF ANY CHANGES IN ASSIGNMENTS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mentor:

  • Make initial contact with mentee
  • Provide advice and guidance on the how-to's of the advancement research profession.
  • Must be willing to:
    • Discuss prospect research field (i.e. job description, budget, research resources, and research requests and time lines, etc.)
    • Providing examples of biographical profiles (i.e. format, research strategies, examples of resources available per category, etc.)
    • Set-up site visit (plan at least 2 hours to go visit mentee at organization and help set-up shop, meet at your shop and allow mentee opportunity to explore and learn about research resources, meet at library, etc.)
    • Provide encouragement and feedback
 
 

Mentee:

    • Coordinate convenient meeting times, locations and ideas with your Mentor. Face-to-face meetings are encouraged, as well as opportunities to meet at chapter events.
