Writing Winning Grant Proposals
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
In this fast-paced, half-day workshop, you will gain expert insight on how to write winning grant proposals. We will begin with researching funders and end with how to make sure your proposals meet the funder’s guidelines and are error-free and presentable. Attendees will receive all course materials, including a sample proposal.
You will learn simple ways to:

  • research funder preferences
  • read a funder’s 990
  • identify measurable outcomes
  • avoid common mistakes
  • follow funder guidelines

Co-presenters:
Marge King is founder and president of InfoRich Group, Inc. Marge’s success rate for writing winning grant proposals is above 80%. In addition to raising millions of dollars for her clients, Marge is a member of the adjunct faculty at Delaware County Community College and Eastern University where she teaches business and fundraising courses at graduate and undergraduate levels. She has served on several nonprofit boards and has written and evaluated multi-million dollar grant proposals for Government Agencies. Marge earned a BS from Cabrini College, a MBA from St. Joseph’s University, and a post-graduate certificate from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. She has been an invited to speak at various AFP chapters’ functions, including Philadelphia, Northeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Southern New Jersey.

Joann Wleklinski is an editor extraordinaire and the owner of Wleklinski Information Services. When not editing grant proposals, Joann writes articles on finding and using information. She has been published in Online, Searcher, The Cyberskeptic’s Guide to the Internet, FUMSI, and has been featured in several books, including The Secrets of the Super Net Searchers. She is the editor of AIIP Connections and former editor of The Informant. Joann has two decades of information research and writing experience in technology, academia, business, and healthcare, having worked at such places as Accenture and MIT. She also spent three months on assignment at the United Nations in New York City. Joann holds an MLIS from Rosary College and a BA in English from Boston College.

Social Tools for Business and Competitive Research
Time: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This hands-on workshop will help you to think differently about social tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and social networking groups as business and competitive resources. We'll cover both resources and techniques for searching, as well as look at non-US sources. Bring your laptop and a company you'd like to research!
You will learn effective ways to:

  • research organizations, industries and experts in social tools
  • integrate social information into your deliverables
  • track information via social tools

Presenter:
Scott Brown teaches, presents and trains on the effective use of social networking tools for Fortune 500 companies, government, small businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals. His book on this topic, “Social Information: Gaining competitive and business advantage using social media tools,” is due out in late 2012. A frequent national speaker on many areas of social media and information work, Scott is also an adjunct instructor for the San Jose State University and University of Denver LIS programs. In addition, he provides professional coaching services. He received his library degree from San Jose State University in California in 1999.
